Government of Iraq launches its National Action Plan on UN Security Council Resolution 1325 (2014-2018)

On February 6, 2014, the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq announced that Iraq had become the first country in the Middle East and North Africa region to launch a national action plan for UN Security Council Resolution 1325. In his remarks praising the government’s commitment, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Nickolay Mladenov, said, “The launching of the National Action Plan is particularly timely as all Iraqis need more than ever to unite to stop the violence and to create an environment that nurtures social cohesion, inclusiveness and respect for diversity.”

Developing National Action Plan for Implementation of UNSCR 1325 in Iraq: Strategic Meeting-Civil Society Reference Group

Following an initial workshop in April 2012, the European Feminist Initiative held a two-day meeting in July 2012 in Beirut to strengthen relationships among key civil society and women’s groups in Iraq and facilitate their inclusion in the NAP development process.
