Leveraging UNSCR 1325 National Action Plans for Local Change: Civil Society Opportunities in the MENA Region

Civil society play a critical role in advocating for and designing a country's national action plan design process. In 2014, the Women's International League for Peace & Freedom compiled examples of civil society engagement throughout NAP design, implementation, and monitoring from eight NAP countries across the globe in order to equip women's groups in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region with global lessons learned to apply to their own advocacy planning.

Palestine Civil Society Builds Awareness on 1325 and Garners Support for Its Implementation

Following a regional seminar on gender in conflict held in Amman in April 2014, Women Media and Development (TAM), the Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy (MIFTAH), and the Palestinian Working Women’s Society for Development (PWWSD) held a series of four workshops throughout the West Bank from April to May to raise awareness of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, define national priorities for its implementation, and establish collaboration among key stakeholders. Over 200 government, civil society, and local group representatives—women and men—participated in total.
