Palestine Civil Society Builds Awareness on 1325 and Garners Support for Its Implementation

Following a regional seminar on gender in conflict held in Amman in April 2014, Women Media and Development (TAM), the Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy (MIFTAH), and the Palestinian Working Women’s Society for Development (PWWSD) held a series of four workshops throughout the West Bank from April to May to raise awareness of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, define national priorities for its implementation, and establish collaboration among key stakeholders. Over 200 government, civil society, and local group representatives—women and men—participated in total.

Women in the Post-Conflict Process: Reviewing the Impact of Recent U.N. Actions in Achieving Gender Centrality

This article asserts that UNSCR 1325 has had little substantive effect on women’s lives in post-conflict zones. Using Darfur and Afghanistan as case studies, the article seeks to demonstrate the de-prioritization of women’s perspectives in conflict situations and how interventions are only as good as the level of knowledge and political will of the people involved. It concludes with recommendations directed toward the UN and UN Security Council.
